The details of the Afghan Admission Programme are now available on the Department of Justice website here. The Department of Justice recommended that you do not apply until after 30th December 2022 when they publish their FAQ (frequently asked questions document).
What do we know now?
The application form, guidance note and FAQ document are now available. We strongly recommend you read these carefully as they contain important information.
- The sponsor in Ireland must be from Afghanistan. If you are a naturalised Irish citizen from Afghanistan you are eligible. If you are an Afghan national who was legally resident in Ireland before 01st September and your immigration permission is either valid for another 12 months or is renewable, you may also be eligible.
- You may only submit an application for up to 4 people. Only one application may be made per household.
- You must show that you are able to financially support all successful beneficiaries on arrival in the State until they can support themselves. (This includes all costs associated with coming to the State and all health related costs while in the State); This means that family members will not have access to social welfare payments, child benefit, SUSI grants for third level education, housing supports or a medical card after arrival in Ireland. If granted, family members will have the right to work.
- You must be able to show that you can provide accommodation for your family.
- Applications can be submitted by post or by email. Documents submitted in support of the application must either be originals or certified copies.
What family members are eligible?
- Your Spouse/de facto Spouse/Civil partner as recognised under Irish law (where not eligible for reunification under the terms of the International Protection Act 2015);
- Your Adult Child (who must be unmarried and without dependants);
- Your Minor Child (where the Minor Child is not eligible for reunification with a sponsor under the terms of the International Protection Act 2015. The Minor Child must be unmarried and without dependants);
- A related Minor Child without parents for whom you have parental responsibility (the related Minor Child must be unmarried and without dependants, e.g. Sibling, Orphaned Niece/Nephew/Grandchild);
- Your Parent (where not eligible for reunification with a sponsor under the terms of the International Protection Act 2015);
- Your Grandparent;
- Your Vulnerable Adult Close Family Member (who does not have a spouse/partner or other close relative to support them).
What documents are needed?
You will need documents to prove:
- Your identity;
- That you are a current or former Afghan national;
- That you are legally resident in Ireland with a minimum remaining duration of 12 months and/or is renewable as at 24 February 2022;
- The identities of all of the proposed beneficiaries of your application;
- The family relationship of every proposed beneficiary to you;
- That you have accommodation for all of the proposed beneficiaries until they can provide their own accommodation;
- That you can support all the proposed beneficiaries financially until they can support themselves.
- You will need to provide both a Garda e-vetting report and a Revenue e-Tax Clearance Certificate
