Following the Dáil debate of the International Protection (Family Reunification) (Amendment) Bill 2017 last December, Nasc was invited by the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice and Equality to make a submission on as part of the Committee's Pre Legislative Scrutiny of the Bill in February 2019.
You can read the transcript of the Committee's session here or watch the video here. Nasc's submission is available here. We now await the publication of the Committee's findings.
The Government has already stated its intention to put a "money message" on this Bill, which we believe is undemocratic. The Bill seeks to return to the definition of family used in the Refugee Act, 1996 - this move would not incur undue additional costs on the State.
Please help us to allow this Bill to continue its democratic process through the Oireachtas. Contact your TDs today and ask them to call on the Government to allow this Bill to progress to the Third Stage.
