Nasc is recruiting a Complementary Pathways Officer to advance a new European multi-stakeholder project which will develop complementary labour and education pathways for refugees to come to Ireland by utilising existing community sponsorship structures.

Salary: €41,000 per annum
Contract Length: The successful candidate with be offered a one year contract with the expectation of renewal to 31st December 2024 subject to satisfactory performance review.
Location: Working from home or hybrid working options available. The successful candidate will be required to attend infrequent in-person meetings in Nasc’s Cork City office and to occasionally travel to meet and engage with stakeholders in Ireland. The position will also involve occasional overseas travel for field visits or partner meetings.
Role Responsibilities
The Complementary Pathways Officer will be responsible for:
- Identifying and engaging with partners who have the potential to become involved in complementary pathways activities in Ireland;
- Recruiting and supporting community sponsorship organisations, businesses, universities and other stakeholders to become involved in complementary pathways;
- Piloting the implementation of complementary labour and education pathways in Ireland;
- Guiding communities through the community sponsorship programme;
- Ensuring progress against project targets;
- Supporting the integration of beneficiaries of complementary pathways post-arrival in Ireland;
- Contributing to the design and development of a national policy framework for complementary pathways for labour and education in Ireland;
- Contributing to the general management of the project’s activities in Ireland, by participating in regular coordination meetings and country-level discussions with partners;
- Organising/coordinating events including roundtables and partner meetings;
- Engaging with relevant national and international stakeholders;
- Contributing to the design of training materials;
- Contributing to the design of publicity, promotional material;
- Maintaining regular contact and close cooperation with project partners, including participating in regular meetings with project partners and providing updates on the organisation’s activities to project partners;
- Maintaining records of all activities carried out and contribute to the project reporting;
- All other project-related activities as may be required;
- Adhering in full to all of Nasc’s policies and procedures.
Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience (Person specification)
The successful candidate will have:
- A Bachelor degree (minimum NFQ Level 8) in a relevant field in relevant area (e.g. law, political science, business, social sciences or social work etc.)
- Two years of relevant professional experience (please outline in your coverletter why you believe the experience is relevant);
- Fluency in English (both oral and written);
- Demonstrated ability to liaise and work with a wide variety of stakeholders including stakeholders from businesses or universities;
- Demonstrated experience managing projects;
- Demonstrated ability to work to autonomously, take personal initiative and work independently;
- Commitment to supporting refugees/asylum-seekers and other groups in complementary pathways;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Permission to work in Ireland;
Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
- Prior experience of Complementary Pathways projects will be an advantage;
- Prior experience working as a recruiter or community organiser;
- Experience of supporting refugees or people seeking international protection;
- Experience of working on an EU-funded project (particularly an Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund project);
- Irish driving licence;
- Experience or knowledge of Community Sponsorship and Complementary Pathways.

- Complementary pathways are safe and regulated avenues that complement refugee resettlement and by which refugees may be admitted in a country and have their international protection needs met while they are able to support themselves to potentially reach a sustainable and lasting solution. The Pact on Migration and Asylum (COM (2020) 609 final) included the goal of widening “complementary pathways to provide opportunities and durable solutions for people in need of international protection”, including those involving “work and student programs”.
- Community Sponsorship is a distinct strand of the Irish Government’s refugee resettlement programme which seeks to support Irish community groups to sponsor refugee families to resettle directly in their local communities.
