María José (Majo) Rivas Vera
Majo holds a degree in law from the Universidad Nacional de Asuncion in Paraguay and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Toronto. Majo focused her research at the Universidad Nacional de Asuncion in women’s access to justice and the elimination of discrimination against women. At the University of Toronto, Majo was a Health Law, Ethics & Policy Fellow for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research as well as an International Reproductive Health Law Fellow for the International Reproductive and Sexual Health Law Program. Before joining Nasc, Majo interned and consulted for the Center for Reproductive Rights office in Latin America, worked as research assistant for the International Reproductive and Sexual Health Law Program of the University of Toronto and worked as Programme Specialist for Peace Corps Paraguay. A lifelong volunteer for civil society organisations, Majo is deeply committed to social justice and the effective realisation of human rights of those who are most vulnerable.
