For World Refugee Week this year, we're asking you to walk in support of our Gateway Refugee Women's Project. From 19th June, walk, run or cycle 30 mins each day to help keep our project open.
Nasc's Gateway Project works with refugee women to provide them with English language classes and supports they need to rebuild their lives in Ireland. The students we work with have fled conflict, war or persecution and are now starting their lives again in Cork.
For many women, issues such as childcare, rural isolation, lack of knowledge of systems, trauma or cost can seem like insurmountable barriers to starting classes or entering employment. Gateway works with our students to overcome these barriers and provide the support they need so that they can gain English language skills and move on to further education or sustainable employment.
Although the Covid 19 restrictions have meant that we've had to close our classroom doors, we've made sure we're not leaving anyone behind. We've moved to virtual classrooms and are now providing supports online:
- English classes
- 1:1 tuition
- Yoga and wellbeing classes
- CV preparation
- Scholarship and college applications
We're supporting over 30 women from 17 different countries around the world.
Your support is now needed to keep our virtual classroom doors open.
