Ten Thousand Days is published by Nasc, the Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre. It was co-created with ten migrant and refugee women living in, or recently moved on from, Direct Provision and International Protection accommodation in Ireland.
Nine chapters were built from recorded interviews and edited into the form each woman then read and approved; the tenth was written by the participant herself. Each woman chose the name she is published under. The booklet closes on a set of specific asks addressed to the Department of Justice, IPAS, the International Protection Office and the HSE, most of which are achievable inside the existing law.
Ten Thousand Days is the closing output of the Empowering Women Project, a three year advocacy programme at Nasc funded by St Stephen’s Green Trust.
The issues in this booklet are discussed constantly in Ireland. They are rarely discussed in the words of the women living them, and that is the gap this booklet was made to close.
