The Women's Empowerment Project is just one of many under the Nasc Women's Programme.

You can learn more about the Nasc Women’s Programme here.

The Women’s Empowerment Project supports the self-advocacy and rights of women in Ireland’s Direct Provision system. This three-year project began in 2023 and is funded by St. Stephen’s Green Trust.

Before the project was launched, a Steering Group of four women living in Direct Provision decided on the priorities for the project, with support from Kiren and Olivia from the Nasc team. A call-out for participants was followed by interviews for participation in the three-year Women’s Empowerment Project. The twelve women selected are passionate about positive integration, advocacy and community development, and have led the strategic direction of the project thus far.

  • their rights in Direct Provision
  • the electoral system in Ireland
  • self-care
  • accessing education and employment in Ireland
  • and tours of Cork City Hall and Dáil Eireann
